What is a Zine?
A zine (pronounced "zeen") is
a small, self-published booklet, like a DIY magazine, focused on niche interests, personal expression, or activism, typically low-budget and created using photocopiers or digital tools for limited distribution. They are highly personal, cover any topic imaginable (from punk music to poetry to personal health), and are characterized by their independent spirit, often featuring collage, original writing, and unique formats. .
Dream Zines
Zine Fest is joining us here to lead this workshop in the art of making zines. This zine making class has a special theme on Dreams and dream interpretation. To start we learn the basics on dream interpretation in tandem with artist-led guidance on zine making.
Make a zine based on a dream (or do your own thing - there are no rules!) After your dream zine is made, Jennifer Gardner, LCSW lead us in an interpretation if you choose.
What is Zine Fest Houston?
Zine Fest Houston is an event and organization dedicated to promoting zines, mini-comics, and other forms of small press, alternative, underground, DIY media and art.
It is also a grassroots attempt to build the local zine, DIY, and alternative media scenes and form networks with media creators in other areas.
Who is leading the interpretation?
Jennifer Gardner, LCSW is a therapist, meditation teacher (and owner of Creó!). She specializes in trauma, attachment, and development of self. She is psychoanalytically trained and dream interpretation is a relevant part of her practice with her patients.
